LIFE SKILL COACHES
COACH Hope offers positive behavior by remaining positive and speaking positive. It is here that we highlight good behavior by teaching better choices and by simply praising good efforts as well as model (demonstrate) good behavior. We also encourage positive self esteem by giving credit where credit is due for something that is done successfully and always promoting positive conversations and praise. We promote greeting others with a smile, being modest with accomplishments, responding positively to difficult situations and learning from mistakes. We also promote good communication skills by showing good mannerism and respect to others and their belongings. We know that sometimes, it is hard for youth to trust and/or communicate with adults. Therefore we offer them the opportunity to converse about their day or any problems they may be having or things (positive or negative) which they have done. This is where our Life Skill Coaches are needed most!
We also work hand in hand with middle and high school coaches if the youth is an athlete. We pay close attention to their performance on and off the field. It is our desire to show our youth the value of a quality education. Therefore, we also train our Life Skill Coaches how to interact with the athlete not only to perform on the field but in the classroom as well. We provide all services free of charge by volunteers. We hope that a grant will assist us in the upcoming months to provide employment to 3-4 Life Skill Coaches.
OPPORTUNITY & AWARENESS VEHICLE
The COACH Hope Program also provides hope through opportunity by opening our doors to our youth offering them help with reading, illiteracy, tutoring, continuing education efforts and supportive employment. One evening a month we provide a community leader or a speaker who has worked in a specific field to bring awareness to our youth. We plan to execute additional awareness topics for our youth such as HIV and Aids, sexually transmitted diseases, sexuality, teen pregnancy, gangs, grief, family neglect, domestic violence, prescription drug abuse and eating healthy. We would like to implement the opportunity to help our youth develop cover letters and resumes. We support them in seeking employment and encourage them to keep employment.
COACH Hope has recently assisted a few juniors and seniors prepare for college. But we would like to increase this opportunity and provide 21 College Prep Sessions over a 6 month period. Here at these sessions high school juniors and seniors will be able to get help preparing for college. This support may come in forms of receiving help completing college applications; writing admittance letters to colleges; assistance in completing financial aid paperwork; assistance in applying for scholarships; assistance in setting up college visitations etc. We also help youth learn how to advocate for themselves, presenting themselves for big interviews such a job interviews, scholarship and/or college interviews.
